ABOUT Us

The idea for the Canadian Chamber Orchestra was born over a simple cup of coffee. The two of us (Andrew Ascenzo and Drew Comstock)—both cellists, long-time friends, and collaborators—were catching up one afternoon when we discovered something remarkable: we’d both been dreaming of creating a chamber orchestra that could bring our shared love of music, collaboration, and innovation to life. That conversation quickly turned into a commitment, and soon after, the Canadian Chamber Orchestra was formed.

We are a 14-piece ensemble made up of some of the finest musicians in the country. Our mission is to create powerful, intimate, and immersive musical experiences that connect deeply with audiences. Whether performing reimagined classics, contemporary Canadian works, or new commissions, we strive to push the boundaries of what a chamber orchestra can be.

What makes this group truly special is the spirit of collaboration—between performers, composers, and our audience. Every performance is shaped by the energy and passion each musician brings to the room. We’re not just playing music—we’re telling stories, creating community, and celebrating the rich diversity of Canadian musical voices. With a passion for storytelling, a commitment to community, and a vision for a more inclusive and adventurous musical future, the Canadian Chamber Orchestra is quickly emerging as a unique and vital voice on the national cultural landscape.

Founded on friendship and fuelled by shared purpose, this orchestra is a dream come true, and we’re just getting started.
