Every musician has a story.
A story about the moment music became more than just something they listened to. Maybe it was a piece that completely blew your mind. A record you played obsessively as a teenager. A concert that changed everything. A song that made you pick up an instrument and think “I want to know how to do that.”
For this Living Room Listening Party, we're handing the playlist over to the musicians of the Canadian Chamber Orchestra.
Each musician will choose music that mattered to them on the way to becoming the musician they are today. It might be classical. It might be rock, pop, folk, jazz, film music, or something you'd never expect to hear from a chamber orchestra.
We'll listen together, talk about why these pieces matter, and hear a few of them live. Because before we became musicians, we were just people falling in love with music.
Why We Play is an evening of favourite discoveries, formative obsessions, unlikely influences, and the sounds that made fourteen musicians want to spend their lives playing.
